Bids have been accepted and plans are underway to build a new gym and track at Kenesaw Public Schools. In March, patrons voted in a special election to pass a $3.795 million bond issue specifically for these projects.
$400,000 was allotted for a new running track, and the remainder will go to a 21,600-square-foot addition that will include; a new 1,200 seat capacity competition gym, multipurpose room, concession stand with commons area, and handicap accessible restrooms. In addition to the building construction, plans also include a parking lot to the north of the new gym. Carmichael Construction, of Hastings has been awarded the bid for the gym, and Diamond Engineering of Grand Island has received the contract on the track.
Construction on these projects could begin as early as this month, but will depend greatly on the weather. A completion date of February 2010 is expected for the gym.
