Kenesaw Public School's Wellness Committee is pleased to announce an exciting new fitness campaign called "MOVE IT". A highlight of this campaign will be the "Active in April" challenge that will begin on April 6. This campaign is being funded by a grant through the South Heartland Health District in partnership with Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The purpose of this challenge is to encourage students and their families to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines as they "move" toward a healthier lifestyle.
The challenge will kickoff on April 6 with an upbeat rally in the gym followed by a heart-pumpin', foot-stompin', "Movin' to the Music" walk around the track. Activity calendars will be sent home that day with each student to keep track of the minutes of physical activity done outside of the school day. If a parent chooses to participate with his/her child, the student can count his/her parent's minutes too.
Students must turn in their calendars on April 30 to be eligible for prizes that will be awarded at an assembly on May 4. Everyone who turns in a calendar will receive prizes along with having their names entered into a drawing for bigger prizes. Some of these prizes include Family Pool Passes, School Activity Pass, Champions Day Passes, I-pod sports armbands, basketballs, soccer balls, outdoor games, and more. We are hoping this will give incentive to our students to put down those T.V. remote controls and video games and get movin' for at least an hour a day.
The public is invited to attend the Kickoff Rally to encourage the students in their quest to a more active lifestyle by joining in as a "mover" (walking with the kids) or a "shaker" (cheering from the sidelines). Hope to see you all on April 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the old gym.
