Construction Continues Through 2009

The loud, obnoxious sound of construction machines raking the dirt smooth right outside of the school often gave the students at Kenesaw Public School a headache. The vibrating-type motions that occurred throughout the school didn't help to cure those headaches either. So what was all the commotion about? A new gymnasium that is due to be finished in 2009! The students here are ecstatic for the new gym to be finished and would gladly put up with a few disturbing noises and vibrations for a new gym.
Carmichael Construction out of Hastings is the construction company that is building our new gym. Thankfully all of the noise and ruckus has subsided because the construction team has now finished all of the dirt work. Heartland Electric out of Grand Island is currently working on relocating the electrical lines and soon the laying of the new foundation for the building will be in progress.
The new gym will be located on the old football practice field on the north side of the school and will be 21,600 square feet. It will hold approximately 1200 seats - twice the size of the current gym. A commons area will be included with the new gym so concessions will no longer have to be held in the school kitchen and cafeteria, and there will be another room that will be used either for wrestling practices and meets or can be divided up into two new classrooms if the space is needed. The new gymnasium is needed so the students at KPS can get home at a decent time instead of staying out late for practices; it will cost around $2,954,000 - money well spent!
