Weather Dampens Homecoming Festivities

By Rebecca Rockefeller

October 01, 2009

Starting out on a great note with spirit week and ending with a rainy night of around four inches of rain, homecoming had its ups and downs. During the week, the student council sponsored several competitions. Tuesday was Injury Day, Wednesday was Nerd Day, Thursday was  Grease Day, and Friday was Red, White, and Blue Day. The seventh graders won dress-up days with 91% participation; the junior class won the float decoration competition with the We Salute Our Nation; We Salute Our Teams theme. The sophomore class won the wall decorating competition with the S'mores theme.

Moving the game to Duncan Field on a rainy muggy Friday evening, didn't put a damper on the Blue Devils' mission to defeat the Nebraska Christian Eagles with a 46-18 victory.

The crowning of Kenesaw's 2009 homecoming king and queen followed the game. the king candidates were Kelly Allison, Reed Hanke, Josh Powell, and Brody Rossow. The queen candidates included Katie Finley, Deidra Heier, Rebecca Rockefeller, and Hannah Uden. Homecoming 2008 King Dustin Mayfield and Queen Courtney Harpham crowned the 2009 King Reed Hanke and Queen Katie Finley.

Excited about the football success, seventh through twelfth grade students rushed back to the Kenesaw High School gymnasium in time to make the dance. DJ Tony Dillehay kept the students awake and moving until the clock hit midnight.
