Counselor's Corner

David Kucera K-12

by Jenae Parr

January 10, 2010

Hi there, everyone. Before we get started on this month's Counselor's Corner, just a couple of reminders. I have only received twelve responses from senior parents with e-mail addresses. As we get into the second semester we are edging ever closer to graduation and having these e-mail addresses would help keep the lines of communication open. Second semester of the senior year is always a busy time, we will have to begin thinking about preparing a senior video, arrangements for graduation day, and so on. Just e-mail me at dkucera@esu9.org and I'll get your address right off of the e-mail. Thanks again.

Juniors, it is time to begin thinking about the spring ACT schedule. The first ACT testing date is February 6, 2010 with a registration deadline of January 5 and a late registration deadline of January 15. Other ACT test dates are:

Registration Date Registration Deadline Late Registration Deadline
April 10, 2010 March 5, 2010 March 6-19, 2010
June 12, 2010 May 7, 2010 May 8-21, 2010

All juniors should consider taking one of these ACTs. I have made sure that each junior has an ACT packet prior to the holiday break, extra packets can be picked up in the Counselor's Office at any time. Each ACT packet will include a registration form, a "Registering for the ACT" instruction manual and a "Preparing for the ACT" practice test. There are testing centers in Hastings at Hastings College (February & April dates), Hastings High School )February, April & June dates) and Hastings St. Cecilia High School (April date). Juniors who do not want to test at the Hastings sites can find alternative sites in the registration handbook that will come in your ACT packet. The basic cost this year for ACT registrations is $32.00. Registration can also be accomplished online by going to www.actstudent.org. If you or your student have any questions, please feel free to contact me here at school at your convenience.

Now, back to you seniors. In the early part of January all seniors will be given the 2009-2010 edition of the Kenesaw High School Local Scholarship Application Packet.
