Hi there, everyone. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. First things first, I'd like to thank all the parents and students that showed and participated in our Financial Aid Night on January 13. In the nine years I've been at Kenesaw, this was the best turnout ever. We had thirty-three parents and students participating, far out-numbering the other school distance learning sites that signed up for the program. The program covered the services offered by Education Quest as well as all the new updates for this year's FAFSA. I think all those who came, walked away with a lot of great knowledge and understanding. Education Quest has been a great organization over the years and has always helped our students. The free services provided by Education Quest can give our students a head start in the pursuit of financial aid and scholarships.
Since our last Counselor's Corner, the seniors have been given their January update of our scholarship list. My office has been busy providing scholarship forms for a number of our graduating seniors. The senior class ranking and G.P.A. has been updated with their first semester grades. A number of our seniors have had me send out updated transcripts to their prospective colleges and universities. If you or your student need an updated transcript sent, please contact me here at school, and I can get those out right away. Along with the scholarship list, each senior was given the local scholarship packet. Those local scholarship applications are due back in my office no later than April 2. I will collect all the local scholarship applications, then distribute them to the different organizations for review. The organizations will then notify me of the scholarship winners, and I will print up the certificates to be handed out during the scholarship portion of the graduation ceremony.
Finally, a word about senior pictures deadline. This year we will be working together with Mrs. Troshynski and the annual staff to gather all the pictures necessary for the senior class composite, the yearbook, the local newspapers, and the graduation video. We have set a March 15 deadline for the collection of all the senior pictures, but we would hope that you'll all get them in much earlier than that. Mrs. Troshynski will be collecting and scanning all your photos. Please get them in as soon as possible.
A quick reminder for all seniors and juniors of the April 10 and June 12 ACT testing dates. Any junior or senior who has not taken an ACT and still wishes to do so this spring should see me to pick up a packet to register. Registration deadlines are March 5 (for the April testing date) and May 7 (for the June testing date). See you next month!
