Music Students Earn Nine Superiors at District Contest

The District Music Contest was held at Grand Island Central Catholic on Friday, April 23. The KHS Band and Choir worked continuously so that they could perform at their best; and all their hard work finally paid off. KHS received nine superior and eight excellent ratings at District Contest.
Individuals and Groups who received Superior (I) ratings were: The Choir--My Love and I by Sonja and Berta Poorman and Ragtime Townby Jerry Estes; Alexandra Huffaker and Kendra Loeffelholz-- clarinet duet--Canon in the Fifth by Saro; Kendra Loeffelholz-- clarinet solo--Contadanse arr. by Nilo Hovey and Beldon Leonard; Seth Campbell--drum set solo--2112 by Neil Peart; Elizabeth Duffy--vocal solo--O Rest in the Lord by Felix Mendelssohn; Kelsey Kimle and Rachelle Steiner--flute duet--Allegro by Goerg Philip Telemann; Rachel Halmbmaier and Kelsy Kimle--vocal duet--Remember Me by Ruth Morris Gray; Alexandra Huffaker--vocal solo--His Eye is on the Sparrow arr. by Mark Hayes; Woman's Ensemble--Dance on My Heart by Allen Koepke.
Individuals and groups who received Excellent (II) ratings were: The Kenesaw Concert Band--Red Rock Canyon by Robert Sheldon and Cavata by W. Francis McBeth; Jack Gallagher--trumpet solo--Trumpet Tune by Leopold Mozart; Rachel Halbmaier--trombone solo--Ruby by H.A. Vandercook; Alexandra Huffaker and Meghan Rockefeller--vocal duet--Poor Wayfaring Stranger arr. by Jay Althouse; Alexandra Huffaker and Lauren Volzke--Loch Lomond arr. by Dave and Jean Perry; Jamie Burr--vocal solo--Someone to Watch Over Me by George Gershwin; Kristina Petersen--vocal solo--To a Wild Rose by Edward MacDowell; Justin Burr, Reed Hanke, Paul Ryu, and Zane Woodman--vocal quartet--The Lion Sleeps Tonight arr. by Scott Turnbull.
Jim Arrowood directs the music program; Kenesaw students have performed exceptionally well at this year's district music contest.
